With the use of the VISX 4 Excimer Laser System, higher degrees of nearsightedness can be corrected even when astigmatism is present. Astigmatism alone, or farsightedness and farsightedness with astigmatism can also be surgically corrected. It is one of the happiest aspects of our practice.
A cool beam of light gently reshapes the cornea for vision correction. This procedure can dramatically improve unaided vision - the ability to function without glasses or contacts for most activities.
The outer layer of the cornea is raised, keeping this layer intact. The cornea is then lasered according to your needed correction. The cornea flap is lowered back into its original position. Within two minutes that layer of tissue adheres completely to the rest of the cornea.
You may have your eyes evaluated for LASIK surgery through area optometric physicians, or you may come in for an evaluation and measurement for surgery in our office. We spend time reviewing your expectations and help you evaluate your risks and benefits. Once you are approved or surgery, you will be promptly scheduled for the next available day that you choose. Dr. Ballon or Dr. Wietharn will meet with you on the day of surgery and will be your surgeon. You will be at our Arlington surgery center for about an hour-and-a-half
All of your follow-up appointments will be available in Arlington, or in the office of one of our co-managing partners . Our staff takes special care to be sure all of your questions are answered and will share in your adjustment period to new vision.
